On Thursday, acting Westchester County District Attorney James McCarty announced that Yonkers resident Robert Daniels, 27, was arraigned on murder charges for his role in a May shooting that left Joseph Huguet shot and killed.
According to McCarty, shortly before 9 p.m. on May 31, Huguet was in Doyle Park when Daniels attempted to rob him at gunpoint. The victim refused to turn over any personal property, and Daniels shot him multiple times with a semi-automatic pistol. He then fled the park.
Yonkers police and an ambulance responded to Doyle Park, where the victim was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital, where he would be pronounced dead. A subsequent autopsy performed by the Medical Examiner determined that the victim suffered bullet wounds in his neck and torso, with lacerations to the heart, lung and liver.
Following the shooting, the Yonkers Police Department launched an investigation that led to Daniels’ arrest several days later. He was found in possession of marijuana upon his arrest.
Daniels has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder, two counts of attempted robbery, and one count of criminal possession of a weapon, all felonies. He has also been charged with unlawful possession of marijuana.
The defendant has pleaded not guilty and has been remanded to Westchester County Jail. He is due back in court on Tuesday, Oct. 25, where he will face a maximum of 25 years to life in prison.
