SCARSDALE, N.Y. - A 66-year-old woman who was unable to submit to a breathalyzer test was busted drinking and driving with a blood-alcohol content nearly triple the legal limit in Scarsdale.

Patrol officers in Scarsdale stopped Bronx resident Jennifer Densen near the intersection of Chase Road and Popham Road shortly after 10:30 p.m. on Nov. 28 after she committed traffic violations.

Police said that during the stop, while speaking with Densen, she had “bloodshot and glassy eyes and there was a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath.” She proceeded to fail several Standardized Field Sobriety Tests including a Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus, Walk and Turn test and One-Leg Stand test.

When attempting to administer an alco-sensor breath screening test, police said that Densen “would continuously inhale and not exhale onto the alco-sensor,” despite being given instructions multiple times about how to properly take the test. She told officers that “she was a singing instructor, but was not feeling well and could not provide a proper sample.”

Densen was arrested and charged with misdemeanor counts of driving while intoxicated and aggravated DWI with a blood alcohol content greater than .18 percent. She was also cited for operating a motor vehicle without insurance, an infraction. She has since been released on bail and is due back in Scarsdale Village Court later this month to answer the charges.
