Pelham Fire Department Receives Grant Money

PELHAM, N.Y. – The Pelham Fire Department recently received a $2,000 grant from commercial property insurer FM Global to help it with fire prevention services.

“We are grateful to FM Global for this grant award,” said Pelham Fire Chief William Stone. “The funds will be used to replace our current computers and aid with prefire planning in the Village of Pelham. Information such as construction type, any special life or safety hazards, and any other pertinent information of any structure will be incorporated into our response dispatch information."

FM Global representative John Antola presented the award to Stone, Pelham fire Lt. Robert Benkwitt, Village Administrator Robert Yamuder and Trustee Joe Marty at the Pelham Fire Department.

The insurance company has contributed millions of dollars in fire prevention grants to fire service organizations around the world, and awarded money to several fire departments in New York.

“At FM Global, we strongly believe the majority of property damage is preventable, not inevitable,” Michael Spaziani, fire prevention grant manager for FM Global, said in a statement.

“Far too often, inadequate budgets prevent those organizations working to prevent fire from being as proactive as they would like to be,” he said. "With additional financial support, grant recipients are actively helping to improve property risk in the communities they serve.”
