Nepperhan Avenue Fire Displaces Four Families In Yonkers

YONKERS, N.Y. - Officials are investigating the cause of a fire that sparked in a high-rise building on Nepperhan Avenue in Yonkers overnight.

Multiple apartments were damaged and several families were displaced after a three-alarm fire sparked at approximately 10 p.m. on Wednesday in the top floor of a 12-story apartment building at 354 Nepperhan Ave.

According to officials, firefighters were able to contain the blaze to a single apartment, but multiple others suffered sizable smoke and water damage. Red Cross volunteers are assisting four families that were displaced during the incident.

In total, more than 60 firefighters were required to knock down the blaze.

The build was evacuated during the fire, but several tenants were able to return. Two firefighters reportedly suffered injuries, and two pets died. A temporary shelter was set up at the Yonkers Police Athletic League as volunteers with the Red Cross attempted to find temporary housing for the victims.
