New Rochelle Man Faces Criminal Charges In Pelham

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. - A New Rochelle resident faces two felony charges for having an unlicensed gun and body vest on him when he was shot at Thursday morning, police said.

Police said Dwayne Turner, 31, was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and unlawfully wearing a body vest, both felonies. The weapon's charge carries a minimum of 3.5 years in prison with a maximum sentence of 15 years. Turner, who was arrested in Pelham shortly after the shooting, was arraigned in Pelham Town Court on both charges.

Police said Turner ditched a loaded handgun after he was stopped by Pelham police shortly after the shooting, which occurred at the intersection of Hutchinson Boulevard and East Lincoln Avenue in Mount Vernon. His girlfriend, a Mount Vernon resident not identified by name, was questioned by police but was not charged with any crimes.
