According to police, Waterbury resident Vitaly Polikoff, 59, was arrested early on Saturday morning, and charged with a misdemeanor count of driving while intoxicated and a pair of infractions after refusing to take a Breathalyzer test.
Shortly after 6 a.m., police responded to the intersection at Heathcote and Stratton Roads, after receiving reports of the vehicle in the bushes. Once he was awoken, Polikoff, who works in Mamaroneck, “had glassy eyes, an odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath and was unsteady on his feet.”
Polikoff failed several standardized field sobriety tests before being arrested. According to a police report, he refused to an Alco-sensor breath screening because it was “against his religion.” He then stated that his actions were the results of his diabetes, though he was found not to be in a diabetic state my emergency responders that were called to the scene.
The defendant was released to his Larchmont tenant on $100 bail. He is due back in village court on Wednesday, Nov. 19.
