Police accused Anthony Delmaro of Lindenhurst, N.Y., of giving estimates and collecting payment in advance for work that was never completed. Police received a complaint on Oct. 21 from an elderly Harrison resident who said that Delmaro collected $5,000 for work that he never completed.

Police said that during the investigation they discovered that Delmaro had been traveling the country for close to 10 years, from Texas to New York, performing the same scam. Police said that Delmaro identified himself and his family as "gypsies." One case four years ago involved scamming a victim in New Rochelle out of $5,000, according to police.

According to police reports Delmaro would solicit clients by sending out mass faxes offering home improvement work. He would use different aliases, addresses and cell phones in dealing with his clients, police said. He has also used several different business names, including Bull-Dog Roofing, A-1 Strong Island Roofing, Ace Roofing, Flattop Roofing and Island-Tec Roofing. He has also been the subject of several television news investigations and has outstanding warrants across the country.

Delmaro was arrested in Yonkers, along with his wife, Ruby Stevenson, and his son, Geno Delmaro. A search warrant was executed on their Lindenhurst home and several vehicles they owned.

Anthony Delmaro was charged with grand larceny. Geno Delmaro was charged with larceny and Stevenson is facing conspiracy charges. Police said that more charges are pending as the investigation continues. Anthony Delmaro was held at Westchester County Jail with no bail. Bail was set at $10,000 for Geno Delmaro and Stevenson, which they did not post.
