A 9-year-old boy was seriously injured in a three-car crash on I-95 in Thursday night.

The accident happened at around 9:15 p.m. near exit 17 on I-95 northbound in Westport, Conn., according to state police.

A Honda Accord, a Toyota Camry and a Subaru Forester were all traveling in the left lane when traffic slowed down. The Accord and Camry came to abrupt stops, but the Forester failed to stop in time and slammed into the back of the Camry, which was then pushed forward into the back of the Accord, police said.

The 9-year-old, who is from Maine, was a passenger in the Camry and suffered a serious head injury, state police said. He was taken by ambulance to Norwalk Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the Camry is a Maine woman who turns 29 years old on Saturday, and she was taken to the hospital for evaluation of minor injuries.

The driver of the Forester, a 29-year-old Maine man, was also taken to the hospital for minor injuries, police said.

The accident caused serious delays on I-95 between Norwalk and Westport Thursday night.
