Officers were dispatched to Ludlow Street at approximately 11:10 p.m. on Thursday night following reports of an assault, Yonkers Police Sgt. Dean Politopoulos said.

Upon arrival, Politopoulos said that officers located the 22-year-old victim, who told police that he was at a Riverdale Avenue grocery store, when he got into a “dispute” with a man. After leaving the store, while traveling on Pier Street he felt a sharp pain in his back and turned around to discover that the same man from the grocery store had stabbed him once with a sharp object.

The suspect proceeded to flee the scene, while the victim proceeded to a friend, who called police, Politopoulos said. The victim was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Police have described the suspect as a 5-foot, 6-inch Hispanic male in his early 20s, weighing approximately 140 pounds. He has shoulder length black hair and was wearing a black t-shirt and a green and black beaded necklace at the time of the stabbing.

Politopoulos said that the preliminary investigation into the incident has determined that the assault may have been an escalation stemming from the dispute inside the grocery store.

The case is being investigated by detectives in the Major Case and Crime Scene Unit, who are speaking with witnesses, canvassing surveillance video and surveying forensic evidence.

Anyone with information regarding Thursday night’s stabbing have been asked to contact the Yonkers Police Detective Division by calling (914) 377-7724. Anonymous tips can also be sent directly to police by texting YPD plus the tip to 847411.
