John Edward Burke, 95, Of Pelham, Detective Sergeant

PELHAM, N.Y. - John Edward Burke of Pelham died Oct. 6. He was 95.

Burke was born March 14, 1919, in the Bronx, to David and Hannah Burke. He attended St. Catherine's school in Pelham and graduated from Pelham Memorial High School. He was in the military police while he served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1945. He was a detective sergeant in Pelham Manor for many years. He was a member of the New Rochelle Rowing Club for years.

Burke is survived by his children, sons, Paul (Ann) and John Jr. (fiancé, Maggie); and daughters, Cathy Schirmer (Joseph), Nancy Vaccaro and Ginger Solano. He was predeceased by his wife, Anna.

A celebration of John's life will be held Thursday, Oct. 9 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Pelham Funeral Home, 64 Lincoln Ave., Pelham followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church located at 559 Pelham Manor Road, Pelham Manor.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
