Dr. Richard Falvey, 84, Former Pelham Manor Dentist

PELHAM, N.Y. – Dr. Richard T. Falvey, a longtime Pelham Manor dentist, died Nov. 4. He was 84.

He was born July 10, 1928, in Bronx, N.Y., to Leo and Helen Falvey. He graduated from LaSalle Academy in New York City and received a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University in 1950, where he was the first person in 25 years to earn eight varsity letters in baseball and basketball.

After graduation and during the Korean War, he enlisted in the Air Force and served as a radar observer intercept and fighter director. He was a longtime member of the American Legion in New Rochelle.

In 1952, Falvey married Catherine Gardner in New Rochelle, and was then stationed in Washington State. He then entered Georgetown School of Dentistry and graduated in 1959, just after the fifth of his 13 children was born.

Falvey opened a dental office in Pelham Manor, where he practiced for 46 years. He retired in 2005. His son, Dr. Kevin Falvey, continues his practice.

He served as chairman of the steering committee that formed the first Parish Council of Blessed Sacrament Church in New Rochelle. He was a member of the Iona Prep Fathers’ Council and a past president and 50-year member of the Rotary Club of the Pelhams.

Falvey volunteered at HOPE Community Services Food Pantry. He enjoyed longtime memberships at the Larchmont Shore Club and Wykagyl Country Club.

He is survived by 12 children, Stephen, Kevin, Catherine, Sharon, Beth Woodtli, Brian, Christopher, Daniel, Peter, Timothy, William and Matthew; eight daughters-in-law, Cathia, Kate, Jennifer, Susan, Caroline, Patti, Deanna, and Erin Falvey; a son-in-law, Andrew Woodtli; two brothers, Robert and Raymond; 27 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Lloyd Maxcy and Sons Beauchamp Chapel in New Rochelle. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Church in New Rochelle.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Ursuline Provincialate, 1338 North Avenue, New Rochelle, NY.
