PELHAM, N.Y. Catherine F. Andreoli, a longtime resident of Pelham, died July 31. She was 91.
Andreoli, who was also known by her professional name, Catherine F. McCarthy, was born Feb. 13, 1921, in New York City to Joseph J. McCarthy and Eva E. Berger McCarthy. She earned undergraduate and law degrees with honors from St. John's University by the age of 22.
After her admission to the bar in 1943, she started her legal career at a Wall Street law firm. On Aug. 25, 1945, she married her law school sweetheart, Peter D. Andreoli and after the birth of their first child in 1950, Andreoli took leave from her law practice to raise her children.
In 1966, she began work as a trademark attorney. She was the first woman attorney hired by General Foods Corporation and became its chief trademark counsel. Andreoli was a member of the U.S. Trademark Association and a member of its board of directors. She retired from General Foods in 1988.
Andreoli was a parishioner of St. Catharine's Church in Pelham and was active in the ladies of charity. She was a member of the choirs of St. Catherine's and the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Manhattan.
She is survived by four children, Peter D. Andreoli Jr., of Centreville, Va., Brian E. Andreoli, of Westport, Conn., Catherine Andreoli, of Arnold, Md. and Christine L. Andreoli, of Pelham; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Antoinette McCarthy; and seven nieces and nephews. Andreoli was predeceased by her husband, Peter; a daughter, Francine and a brother, Joseph V. McCarthy.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Pelham Funeral Home . A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Catharine's Church, followed by burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.
