August J. Carideo, 90, Of Pelham, Member Of The Pelham Volunteer Fire Dept.

PELHAM, N.Y. - August J. Carideo of Pelham, formerly of Mt. Vernon, died July 18. He was 90.

Carideo was born to Cosmo and Angelina (Zuzolo). He was a graduate of Edison H.S.; he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS Prairie. He was employed by Petrillo Stone Cutting and the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier in Mt. Vernon for 35 yrs. A parishioner and usher at St. Catharine's Church, he attended Mass daily at St. Joseph's in New Rochelle. He was a longtime member of Pelham Volunteer Fire Dept.. He rose to position of chief, and was on the board of the Volunteer Firemen's Association for many years and a longtime member of Pelham Senior Citizens.

Carideo is survived by his brother, Anthony Carideo (Ines); brothers-in-law, Pete Salatino and Anthony Frusciante; son, August (Maria) Carideo of New Rochelle; daughter, Marianne Carideo of Pelham; four grandchildren; many cousins; godchildren; nieces, nephews; great-nieces, great-nephews; and friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Rose (Pellicci); and sisters, Josephine DeSimone, Lena Salatino, and Angelina Frusciante.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Cariedo’s memory to St. Catharine's Church , the Wounded Warrior Program or your favorite charity. More information is available from Pelham Funeral Home.
