Town Justice Huff Steps Down After 35 Years

PELHAM, N.Y. – For 35 years, Town Justice Stephen F. Huff has served on the bench in Pelham, but he has been forced to resign due to undisclosed medical reasons. The news comes just two months after the longtime Pelham Manor resident won re-election and was sworn in to another four-year term on Jan. 1.

Newly elected Town Supervisor Peter DiPaola Jr. stated that he will recommend a successor to the nine-term judge, who must then be approved at a public meeting of the Town Board. Until that point, Town Justice John De Chiaro is serving in that role and conducting Town Court matters.

Huff’s replacement will continue in his role until Jan. 31, 2012. There will be an election in November of next year to elect a four-year term town justice, who would start on Jan. 1, 2013.

According to his letter of resignation, Huff’s medical issues began and developed over the last few weeks. The 45-year Pelham Manor resident did not give any further details on his condition.
