A grand jury has indicted White Plains residents Trevon Major, 16, his brother, Vance, 18, and Yonkers resident Timothy Whitney, 19, for their roles in the death of Joseph Smith III in August. The trio are scheduled to be arraigned in Westchester County Court on Wednesday.

The younger Major has been charged with first-degree manslaughter, while the other two are facing robbery and weapons charges for their roles in what police described as a targeted attack.

First responders found Smith with a gunshot wound to the chest in a sixth-floor stairwell of a seven-story apartment complex on Manhattan Avenue on Aug. 18. Paramedics treated Smith at the scene and he was transported to the Westchester Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Following an investigation into the shooting, during which police found a gun in Majors’ apartment, the three were arrested. They are currently being held without bail at the Westchester County Jail.
