A Blizzard Warning which had been issued for New York City now includes Southern Westchester and is in effect until 4 a.m. Sunday as the monster storm that has been burying Mid-Atlantic states with snow and powerful sustained winds has arrived in the area earlier than originally expected Saturday.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo has declared a State of Emergency for New York City, Long Island, Westchester, Rockland and Putnam counties. In addition, the cities of Mount Vernon and Yonkers have declared states of emergencies.
Bee-Line buses and Paratransit vehicles are operating with major delays system wide due to poor road conditions.
Routes 8, 13B, 30, and 60 are operating on standard snow detours.
Route 2 -buses are avoiding the hills-northbound buses in Getty Square are traveling right on Prospect Ave., left on Main St., and right on Broadway to Roberts Ave. Southbound buses will travel right on Roberts Ave., left on Broadway, right on Wells Ave., and left on Warburton Ave.
Route 6-buses are avoiding icy conditions on Dobbs Ferry Rd.-northbound straight on Rt. 9A, right on Rt. 119. Southbound buses are traveling straight on Rt. 119, left on Rt. 9A.
All of Westchester, Putnam and Rockland are now under a Winter Storm Warning.
The warning, originally scheduled to take effect at 6 a.m. Saturday, has been pushed up to 4 a.m. It was originally scheduled to expire at 1 p.m. Sunday. But is now is scheduled to end at 7 a.m. Sunday.
Southern-most Westchester and New York City are now expected to see as much 18-24 inches of snow with anywhere from 12-18 inches of snow forecast for most Westchester and Rockland.
Strong gusts of between 50 and 60 miles per hour are expected along coastal areas with power outages possible.
Snow, which started around dawn in parts of the area, should wind down in the late evening hours Saturday in most of the area with snow showers winding down overnight.
Motorists are being urged to stay of the I-95 corridor from Washington, D.C. to New York City. Nearly all flights have been canceled. Nearly all SAT tests scheduled throughout the area have been canceled with most rescheduled for Feb. 20.
