Sound Shore Robbery Suspect Confessed, Pelham Police Say

PELHAM, N.Y. – The man apprehended by the Pelham Police Department Friday morning while sitting inside a car, who had a stolen handgun in his possession, “has admitted to all the Pelham robberies in addition to robberies in New Rochelle, Harrison, and Mamaroneck,” said a 10:25 a.m. email from the village government.

“Last night, while being interviewed by Detectives from Pelham and other departments, the suspect admitted to the crimes and did provide details that only the perpetrator of the crimes would know,” said the email. “He did state that he was acting alone.”

Beginning in January, the man, whose name is not known yet, allegedly robbed three people while walking home from the Pelham Metro-North train station and also allegedly committed robberies of a similar nature in the village of Mamaroneck, the town of Mamaroneck, Harrison and New Rochelle. Police had suspected the crimes were connected.

In each of the robberies, the man allegedly approached the victim from behind with a black semi-automatic gun and told them to lie on the ground, which is when he alegedly would rob the victims of their property, police said. All of the robberies occurred by the train station of each community.

While the village government said “this is great news” in the email, it also instructed residents “to continue to use common sense while walking in the Village, especially at night.”

“Continue to walk in groups, whenever possible and continue to be alert and vigilant if walking alone,” the email said. “In addition, parked cars must be locked up and homes should always be locked when no one is there.” A phone call to a Pelham detective was unreturned as of this article's publishing.
