Police Arrest Man in Hit and Run in Fairway Lot

PELHAM MANOR, N.Y. – Witnesses and bystanders signaled Pelham Manor police Saturday evening at approximately 6:30 p.m. after a hit-and-run incident in the parking lot of the Fairway Market at 847 Pelham Parkway.

A woman had been walking southwest through the lot when 2001 BMW hit her from behind as it traveled west. Police checked on the woman and saw she had multiple injuries to her head and body.

The woman had asked the man driving the car for a ride to the BJ's Wholesale nearby. An argument started between the two and escalated. The woman became afraid of the man's actions and behavior, decided to walk home alone and left the car.

The man drove approximately 150 yards to the area near Citibank after he hit the woman. He stopped and returned to where she laid on the ground with several witnesses and Fairway security around her.

Police called for an ambulance to take her to Jacoby Medical Center and placed the man under arrest. A doctor at the center said she had multiple lacerations to her head and body and she would be discharged.

Police charged the man with second degree assault, fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident. The detective division planned to follow up with witnesses.
