PELHAM, N.Y. Several stores in Pelham have orange decorations and both real and fake pumpkins outside to express the spirit of Halloween. But some stores have taken the holiday to the products inside the buildings.
DeCicco Food Market owner John DeCicco Sr. said recently that Halloween is the biggest beer holiday of the year. In addition to the standard Budweiser and Miller products, the shelves in the store are stocked with unique Halloween-themed beverages, including Southern Tiers pumpkin flavored beer called Pumking, the best-selling beer at the supermarket for the Halloween season.
The bakery inside the supermarket displays orange cakes with jack-o-lantern faces. DeCicco said the roster of Halloween treats will expand this week to include cupcakes and other spooky sweets.
People have a lot of parties, so theyve got to make funny-looking, scary stuff for kids, DeCicco said.
Susan Sepulveda of Sues Corner gift shop displayed curtains and lamp covers with spider web patterns on them. She has also been selling drinking glasses with Halloween decorations on them and collectible Halloween dolls.
Ashlin Cooke, owner of Pelham Pet Shop, decided not to infuse too much Halloween spirit into her store but she is selling a versatile party collar decorated with Halloween flare for dogs that can also wrap around the base of a candle or hold someones hair in a ponytail.
Its a multi-use product, which I thought was a lot of fun, Cooke said.
