Pelham Stores Decorate for Holiday Season

PELHAM, N.Y. – Lois Soccodato at Village Wine and Liquor has a Christmas decoration tradition each year. The windows and displays in her store are filled with nutcrackers from her family’s collection.

Soccodato’s store is one of many in Pelham who have wrapped themselves in the holiday spirit with Christmas decorations. Storefronts all alone Fifth Avenue are covered with garland, lights and other holiday staples.

Soccodato does not take her decoration duties lightly. She said people expect to see them every year and she always puts them up the day after Thanksgiving but “never before.”

“It takes all day to put them out,” Soccodato said.

Other stores are still in the process of decoration. Katie Rawlick, manager at LaGravinese Jewelers, has adorned the store with Christmas decorations for seven years and has enjoyed it each time.

“It’s my thing,” Rawlick said. “I like decorating the store for Christmas.”

Rawlick has already added holiday scented candles, including cinnamon, to the counters of the store and placed miniature tree-shaped ornaments throughout the shop. She said she shopped locally and ordered a wreath from Pelham Memorial High School and garland from Richie Bell’s shop on Fifth Avenue.

Rawlick said LaGravinese Jewelers will host Christmas parties on Dec. 11 and Dec. 18 and plans to have her decorations finished by next week. She plans to add some trees and large ornaments to the windows.

But customers have already noticed and commented on the handful of decorations in the store.

“Already, everybody’s been walking in saying it smells beautiful and looks good,” Rawlick said.
