PELHAM, N.Y. The Pelham Board of Education will name its new president and vice president in addition to welcoming two new members during its Tuesday night meeting.
Michael Recca and Madeline Smith were elected to the board May 15, replacing former President Robert Eicher and Doug Hearle. The two chose not to run for re-election and before their final board meeting on June 19 they were honored for their years of service to the Pelham School District .
The election of the new president and vice president will be discussed and voted on in public session. Martha Arden had been the vice president.
During the 2012-13 school year, the board will have to choose a new superintendent to replace the retiring Dennis Lauro and interim Charlie Wilson , work on keeping the 2013-2014 school budget under the New York State-mandated tax levy cap and negotiate with teachers on expiring contracts.
Although not yet officially board members, Recca and Smith have been allowed to take part in closed-door, executive session board meetings since the election. Both Recca and Smith have said they are looking forward to joining the board.
The meeting will begin at 8 p.m. in Pelham Memorials Alumni Hall. An executive session of the board will precede the public meeting at 6:30 p.m.
