Pelham Residents Reflect on Best Holiday Gifts

PELHAM, N.Y. - During this time of year, many people reflect back on the best holiday gifts that they have ever received. For some Pelham residents, it is not always that easy.

“My husband gave me a Coach handbag one year for Christmas and I thought he spent too much money and I returned it,” said Kit Portrake, owner of Timeless Treasures and Art Gallery.

Looking back now, she regrets the decision. “I wish I had it back now,” admitted Portrake.

Paula Lamont, who was shopping in the store, immediately thought of two dolls that she was given.

“When I was a little girl, I got two Mary McGuffin dolls,” said Lamont.

An annual trip that Annie Synnot took was better than any present she opened on Christmas morning.

“When I was going home from here to my home in Ireland,” Synnot said. “That’d be the same as a Christmas present.”

Synnot was able to spend time with family, which cannot be replaced. “It was when my parents were alive, so it was very precious going home.”

Police officer Denise Boyle-Quatroni, walking her beat in Pelham, said that no Christmas gift stood out as the best. Instead, the present she will be giving her 13-year-old daughter means more to her.

“I’m getting her the Star Wars edition Xbox,” Boyle-Quatroni said.

While her daughter will not receive it on Christmas, Boyle-Quatroni has told her she will be getting it.

“It doesn’t come out 'till February, but that is kind of a big one. She’s been wanting the Xbox for a while,” she said.

The Star Wars edition Xbox might just end up as her daughter’s favorite gift when she looks back years from now.
