Food is a popular holiday topic because of all the events that people will go to throughout the season. While Italian families concentrate on a big fish dinner on Christmas Eve, other people like the various desserts that are prevalent throughout the holiday parties. Pelham residents are certainly up to the task when it comes to making delicious holiday food.
Christmas Eve is a more special holiday than Christmas day in my family, said Lora Annungiada. On Christmas Eve, we do lots of fish. Seven types of fish and then on Christmas Day, we do pork loin and I make pasta.
Annungiada makes clams, mussels, calamari, shrimp, and scallops. She does have two favorite dishes though.
I make a fish salad that has a lot of fish in it and Ill make pasta with lobster sauce, said Annungiada. Shrimp cocktail will come first. So, thats how you get seven in there for anybody tempted to do it all.
She also makes sure to take care of her relatives that love dessert. I make cookies, said Annungiada. I have tons of different kinds of cookies.
Unfortunately for Laura Paci, who is also Italian, her kids do not like fish. However, she makes them any way.
We do a lot of fish, said Paci. Those are my favorite. Although, I also make lasagna because half of my kids dont eat fish. Its a lot of work, but thats basically our foods for the evening.
Jean Hardy is very easy to please when it comes to food at this time of year.
Ill eat just about anything, especially pumpkin bread and egg nog, said Hardy. I think any kind of fruit [for dessert]. I think light desserts are very important because you dont need a lot after having a big meal.
Whether it is fish or sweets, Pelham residents certainly know what to cook during the holiday season.
