Pelham Predicts Peace and Playoffs for 2012

PELHAM, N.Y. – People turn into prognosticators leading up to every New Year’s Eve in the hopes that their predictions will come true - or not. Whether it is sports or news, Pelham residents certainly have their ideas of what will occur in 2012.

“I’m hoping the Yankees win the World Series,” said DeCicco’s Food Market worker, Alex Moschetta. “I could see the Yankees getting there and probably doing it.”

With spring training still more than a month away, Moschetta made a bold prediction about this weekend's Giants game against the Cowboys.

“Maybe the Giants getting to the Super Bowl after Sunday night’s win,” said Moschetta.

The longtime Yankees and Giants fan does not watch hockey, but he is a fan of the Knicks, and he has not liked their effort at the start of this season.

“The Knicks don’t look too good right now,” said Moschetta. “They’re struggling.”

Another Pelham resident, Ginny Manganiello, agreed with Moschetta’s World Series prediction.

“The Yankees are going to win again – absolutely,” said Manganiello.

Lifelong friends Carole Klein and Deb Kettner, who were enjoying the beautiful weather at the end of December, focused on what they would like to see happen over the next year. Before settling on what she would like to see in 2012, Klein made the point that anything beyond Dec. 21, 2012 is not guaranteed.

“It’s 2012 and, according to the Mayan calendar, it’s not a very good year for us,” she said of the infamous prediction that the world will end.

However, over the next year, Klein would like to see worldwide violence come to an end.

“I think people should be living in moments. They should be responsible and be kind,” she concluded.

Kettner had just one, but very difficult, hope for 2012.

“I just hope for peace,” said Kettner. “Worldwide, I just don’t understand why everyone just can’t get together as one. I know it sounds crazy, but like John Lennon said in his song.”

Kettner shared the same sentiment with her good friend in wishing that people would stop fighting.

“I would just love to see everyone come together,” said Kettner. “I just think we’re all so upset.”
