Pelham Mega Millions Players Excited By Jackpot

PELHAM, N.Y. – Pelham residents and those who work in the area are excited about the $363 Mega Millions jackpot and many have said that family would come first if they won.

Lifelong Pelham resident and mother of three, Lois Soccodato, knew exactly what she would do with the money if she were lucky enough to win on her first try.

“I’d give money to all my kids,” Soccodato said. “I would give to the kids because the kids are the ones that are starting out. They’re the ones that are working really hard at their jobs to try to get married, buy a house, do good things for their children.”

She also planned on hiring a driver for her father, Richie Bell, so that she did not have to worry about him, but she said he “probably wouldn’t like that because he wants to be in control and do his own driving.”

Soccodato, who works at Village Wine and Liquor, said that she would not quit her job and planned on continuing to live in Pelham. The first phone call about the news would go to her father.

“It’s big to win money and I think it’s really nice, but you can’t that just rule your whole life,” Soccodato said.

Jose Sanchez, who works at DeCicco’s Food Market, said that he would get his twin brother a new liver with the money.

“He’s in the hospital right now,” said the Yonkers and North Middletown resident. “That’s my number one thing. Money talks – I think a million dollars would buy one.”

Both Soccodato and Sanchez said that they would travel a lot more if they had the lucky ticket. Soccodato would want to go to St. Thomas and Sanchez dreamed of going Marlin fishing in Florida and to Hawaii.

Lamou Barthelemi, who works at Paper Chase Stationery on Fifth Avenue, said that the store has gotten a lot more customers with the life-changing jackpot.

“I mean every time when it gets this high, they start coming from the woodworks,” Barthelemi said. “Not only that but the seasonal players always come – they play a lot more. Then you get the new-timers, who don’t know what’s going on. They just want a ticket.”

Barthelemi bought his ticket already because “if you get a ticket, your chance is there at least regardless of how slim it is. All it takes is $1 and hey, it could change your life.”

He plans on buying an Audi R8 if he wins, but first he would help out his family members and close friends before traveling.  “My mom would obviously be the first. Like if I win, she wins, that kind of goes hand-in-hand,” Barthelemi said.
