Pelham Market Sells More Beer For Halloween

PELHAM, N.Y. – Halloween calls to mind images of candy, jack-o-lanterns and children in colorful costumes. But DeCicco Food Market owner John DeCicco Sr. sells a large quantity of an item that some might not connect to the spooky holiday.

“Believe it or not, the biggest beer holiday of the year is Halloween,” DeCicco said.

The store’s owner said he sees such an increase in the sale of the liquid libation because many people host Halloween parties.

But the traditional Halloween staple, candy, has also been flying off the shelves at DeCicco Food Market.

“Everybody’s going crazy with the candy,” DeCicco said. “Each week has been more and more.”

DeCicco said people have often chosen bulk bags of candies this year because it is the most economical option. Customers have been stocking up on candy for the past three weeks.

But DeCicco has been prepared for the Halloween rush for much longer than that. He ordered extra candy and beer six months in advance to get ready for the expected spike in sales of both of those products.

And while customers have been buying Halloween candy for weeks, DeCicco said they will probably wait until the last few days before the holiday to buy beer.
