PELHAM MANOR, N.Y. Pelham Manor police arrested a man and charged him with petit larceny after he allegedly stole wooden pallets from the rear of Five Below on Pelham Parkway.
Police arrested 45-year-old Leonardo Cruz of 880 Thieriot Ave. in the Bronx late Sunday night. An officer on routine patrol saw him take a pallet from the loading dock behind Five Below and load it into his car, according to the police report.
The officer called for backup, approached and asked Cruz to step out of the car. The officer then saw movement in the passenger seat. Police asked him who was in the seat, but Cruz refused to answer.
Another officer arrived and removed the passenger from the car. Cruz told police he had permission to remove the pallets but could not provide the name of the person who allowed him to take them.
Cruz had stolen pallets from behind the nearby Fairway Market in the past, according to the police report, and had lied about having permission when police arrested him at that location in the past.
Police contacted the owner of the car, who said he had permission to take the pallets but also could not give the name of the person who gave him permission. Police then arrested Cruz, processed him and released him on $100 cash bail. He is due in court on Dec. 1 at 6 p.m.
Police took pictures of the inside of the car, which was filled with 15 pallets. Officers impounded the car and released the passenger who was in the car with Cruz.
