Pelham Manor Police Arrest Alleged Oil Thief

PELHAM MANOR, N.Y. – Pelham Manor police arrested a man early Saturday morning on a charge of petit larceny after he allegedly stole used cooking oil from the Five Guys Burgers and Fries on Secor Lane.

Police confronted the man just after 4:30 a.m. after they saw him place a plastic container into the side door of his van. They asked him what he was doing and he said he was getting cardboard for his van.

A large steel barrel at the rear of the restaurant contains used cooking oil. As police asked the man more questions, he became agitated and appeared to be nervous, according to the police report.

Officers asked him why he had oil on his shoes and clothes, and he replied, “To tell you the truth, I was taking some oil out of that big barrel.” He pointed to the large steel barrel as he answered.

He also pointed out the oil container in the back of his van that he had filled from the barrel. Police then arrested the man and impounded his van.

Officers found several containers of oil in the back of the van, as well as plastic wrap surrounding the inside of the vehicle to protect it from potential damage from the oil. Police transported the man to headquarters.

Officers entered the five containers of oil as evidence and the manager of the restaurant filled out an owner’s deposition for the oil at 7:30 a.m.
