Pelham Library Offering Summer Computer Classes

PELHAM, N.Y. – The Town of Pelham Public Library will offer free computer classes in June and July on library databases, Microsoft Word and creating fliers. The four Monday classes will be open to a maximum of five people, and residents can sign up at the library’s front desk, or call 914-738-1234.

The first class, “Library Databases,” takes place June 25 from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. The class will center on the Novelist and Novelist K-8 reader-advisory databases.

Together, they feature information on more than 125,000 fiction titles with subject access, 100,000 professional book reviews, genre and topic book lists, awards lists, book-discussion guides and book talks, according to the library.

A two-part “Introduction to Microsoft Word” will take place June 9 and June 16 from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Participants in the final class, scheduled for July 23, will create an eye-catching flier, according to the library. Students will use what they learn from Microsoft Word 2010, including the wide variety of fonts and font sizes, pictures and clip art "to make great fliers," library officials said.

The only prerequisites for the class are basic mouse and keyboarding skills. All who participate are asked to arrive five to ten minutes early, because the building is closed and those who arrived after 10:10 a.m. will not be admitted.

The library also urges those who sign up for a class, but cannot make it, to call at least 24 hours ahead of time to cancel, to allow others to take the space.
