Pelham Ice Cream Shop Owner Prepares for Colder Months

PELHAM, N.Y. – The first official day of fall arrives on Friday and at least one local business that thrives during the summer has begun to prepare for colder temperatures.

Jinoh Hwang, owner of Double Rainbow ice cream shop on Wolfs Lane, knows that his customers' appetites for ice cream decrease as the temperature drops in the autumn and winter.

"That's why I'm preparing with bulk chocolates and the bakery," Hwang said.

The owner decided for the fall and winter months to shift his focus to the Godiva chocolates, cakes and other baked goods that he sells from the case located in the back of the shop. He is also prepared to brew hot Lavazza coffee and cappuccino to sell to those customers who want some relief from the biting cold.

Last year, Hwang only sold packages of instant coffee and did not have any items in the bakery to offer his customers during fall and winter. He wanted to better prepare his store this year for the inevitable drop in ice cream sales.

"At any time customers come in the winter, they can enjoy good coffee," Hwang said.
