PELHAM, N.Y. – Nuchada Julavitz was one of many Pelham parents registering a child on Tuesday for a seat in a kindergarten class next fall.
Julavitz signed up her son, Mac, to attend Colonial Elementary School next year. She said she has found the schools are great places since enrolling her older son, Guy, in kindergarten at Colonial following a move from Oakland, Calif., in October.
“So far we love the school district,” said Julavitz. “We find the schools are very academically sound”
Julavitz was one of many parents to enroll their kids for next year's kindergarten classes at Colonial and Hutchinson elementary schools during the first day of registration.
Kindegarten registration ends Wednesday when new families with last names A through L , whose children will attend Prospect Hill and Siwanoy elementary schools, register from 9 a.m. to noon in school district offices, 18 Franklin Place. Those with last names M through Z have their turn from 1 to 3 p.m.
Children must be 5 years old on or before Dec. 31, 2013.
The district suggests families meet with the central office registration clerk, and a school nurse to submit their completed registration forms and other necessary information. Families do not need to bring their child with them. Registration forms received by mail will not be accepted, the district said on its website.
Parents and guardians must register their children in-person and bring their completed registration application forms and copies of original paperwork to the district office.
The district also suggests that families who need to have documents signed do so before their registration date.

Families who can’t make the scheduled registration dates can make an appointment with district employee Camille Spadaro at 914-738-3434, ext. 1211.
