PELHAM, N.Y. The Town of Pelhams emergency-transmission antenna is now replaced after a sudden outage shut down radio services for a brief time among the firehouse, police department, ambulance, and other emergency departments.
Almstead Tree, Shrub and Lawn Care immediately replaced the antenna with a new one after officials realized the old one could no longer be used.
Without that specific antenna, the main radio for the police and other emergency services is inoperable, said Village of Pelham Chief of Police Joe Benefico in a statement.
The antenna, sits on the roof of town hall, and is unable to be reached with a ladder therefore requiring the use of a bucket truck, which the village does not own.
Town officials contacted Almstead for the use of one of its bucket trucks so the antenna could be more easily reached.
We felt that one of Almsteads cranes would be the safest option for the worker replacing the antenna, Benefico said.
