PELHAM, N.Y. Edward Kalendarev owns Exclusive Hair Studio on Wolfs Lane. The Russian immigrant offers all barber shop services and said a particularly groovy hair style is returning for young men.
For kids, theyll grow long hair like hippies, Kalendarev said.
Kalendarev said that currently, shorter hair styles, including crew cuts and fades, are most popular among young men in their late teens. Younger boys, though, tend to have longer, wilder hair.
The Russian native said childrens schools hold influence over young boys hairstyles. And right now, the school culture dictates that longer hair is popular.
The Queens resident commutes to Pelham each morning to run his Pelham barber shop, which he has owned for six years. He worked for 15 years cutting hair in the subway in Queens, but the odor and noise caused him to make a change.
Kalendarev, who has been in the United States for 21 years, has cut hair for customers ages one to 98. Eleven-year-old Cris Moore sat in one of the chairs in Kalendarevs shop on Friday as the barber cut his long, brown hair.
And Kalendarev said the hair could have continued to grow. If his father didnt bring him, hed have long(er) hair, Kalendarev said.
