PELHAM, N.Y. With just a few days left, members of the Pelham Art Center are looking forward to Fridays opening reception of their annual Faculty and Student Showcase.
Its really exciting because we want the community to feel included and represented, because we really respect everyones works, said Laura Koo Nicholas, gallery and public program manager. Its exciting to see what is created right here in our studios.
The exhibit features at least 70 works from more than 100 students and instructors of all ages, including some outside of Pelham. Those who took or taught a class at the center in the last year were eligible to submit up to two pieces.
We have a lot of paintings, watercolor, colored pencil, collage, three-dimensional works, and kind of everything in between, said Nicholas. Were getting a good turnout.
Lynn Honeysett, director of the center, was in awe of the various works hanging on the walls.
Its very impressive to see the caliber of artist instructor that we have here Im always excited by emerging talent that comes out of the community, and thats what we get with our students, said Honeysett.
One of the students, Bruce Withers, has been taking classes for four years and is exhibiting two paintings. Withers is a real fan of the Pelham Art Center and said, its a fun show.
Its been tremendously enriching and Im just gratified to be able to participate in the show, he said. Its always wonderful to see the culmination of students and teachers and what theyre producing. I really enjoy it. I look forward to it every year.
The free opening reception runs from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, while the exhibit will be open until Aug. 12. An art-making workshop open to all ages will also be offered during that time.
