PELHAM, N.Y. The Pelham Art Center will host the opening reception for their newest exhibit, Separation Anxiety, on Friday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The exhibition, which is open until Mar. 31, explores 21st century notions of parenthood through the photography, oils, clocks and macramé of 14 artists.
Executive Director of the Pelham Art Center, Lynn Honeysett, is excited for the centers first exhibit of 2012.
I think whats interesting about this particular show is that I think it gets in the heart of how many Pelham residents are struggling with these same issues how to balance home life and work life, changing roles of women and men, and relating to your children, Honeysett said. I think thats basically whats brought up in this.
Everyone is invited to the free opening reception, where food and drink will be provided to view the 20-piece display. The center will be holding an art workshop for children, which explores the themes of love and attachment, during the event as well.
We have a free all ages art workshop, so its family friendly, Honeysett said. Parents can come and drop their kids off or work with their kids in the workshop. Workshops are usually somewhat thematically related to the exhibition, so I believe its going to be collage. So people will be dealing with collage and the whole idea of separation anxiety.
Honeysett believes she can relate to many of the works in the exhibit as a woman and a parent.
Ive struggled with some of these same issues myself, Honeysett said. Its exciting, so I think whats fun about it is that you can go around and it kind of stimulates conversation about the subject because the artist has taken various different viewpoints as they look at parenthood some serious, some personal, some humor, in a variety of media.
