PELHAM, N.Y. That the Pelham Picture House actually is named the Picture House Regional Film Center and has been showing films since 1921?
The nonprofit business, located at 175 Wolfs Lane, faced its most dire situation in 2001-2002 when it was set to be demolished and turned into a bank, according to its website. However, Pelham residents banded together and formed the Pelham Picture House Preservation and during a period of two years they were able to raise nearly $1 million from surrounding neighborhoods in order to buy and preserve the theater.
The name change, brought about by the Pelham Picture House Preservation, was to reflect the organizations new mission to transform the theater into an independent film and education center, its website said.
