WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. – The New York-Newark-Jersey City metropolitan area saw the largest growth in population in the state between 2010 and 2012, according to new figures from the U.S. Census Bureau.
The metro area had an estimated 19,831,858 residents in 2012, up a half-percent from 19,729,930 residents in 2011. More than 101,900 people moved into the area from 2011 to 2012.
Population changes were not available for Westchester County, which had a total population of 949,113 in 2010.
New York City remains the most populated city in the United States, according to the Census Bureau.
Population Changes in New York Metropolitan Areas:
- New York-Newark-Jersey City – up 0.5 percent
- Ithaca – up 0.8 percent
- Albany-Schenectady-Troy – up 0.2 percent
- Elmira – up 0.1 percent
- Rochester – no change
- Glens Falls – down 0.2 percent
- Syracuse – down 0.2 percent
- Utica-Rome – down 0.2 percent
- Kingston – down 0.4 percent
- Binghamton – down 0.7 percent
