New Rochelle Man ID'd As Victim In Fatal I-684 Crash

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. -- The identify of the taxi passenger killed in Friday afternoon's crash on Interstate 684 has been provided by New York State Police, according to lohud.com.

The victim was identified as New Rochelle resident Nicolas Karafantis, 65.

He was a passenger in the rear seat of the SUV Green Team taxi that was struck in the rear when it was stopped on the shoulder, according to police, said lohud.com.

The taxi was occupied by the driver and one passenger, when a white Nissan Pathfinder, occupied by the driver only, was traveling southbound and struck the rear of the taxi SUV at around 3:15 p.m.

The investigation of the collision caused a lengthy traffic slowdown just as the evening commute was starting.
