Man Leaves Scene of Accident After Hitting Tree

PELHAM MANOR, N.Y. – Pelham Manor police responded to a car accident early Saturday morning but the driver had left the scene by the time they arrived.

Police went to the intersection of Esplanade and Ely Avenue shortly after 5 a.m. Saturday and found a car sitting in the grass median with damage to the right front fender. The driver of the vehicle was not in the area.

Police found the man at his home and brought him back to the scene of the accident. The man said he was driving too fast, lost control of the car and struck a village tree, according to the police report.

Officers issued the man summons for damaging a village tree and leaving the scene of a property damage accident. The man was not injured.

Also on the blotter:

- Two men in a dark green Honda Odyssey allegedly stole 15 to 20 wooden pallets from the rear parking lot of the Fairway Market on Pelham Parkway. The pallets are property of the market and the men did not have permission to take them, according to the police report.
