PELHAM, N.Y. - All Star pitcher Ralph Branca will attend a tribute to his old friend and teammate Jackie Robinson in Pelham Tuesday evening with county executive Robert P. Astorino at a showing of the Robinson biopic '42'.
Branca, a Mount Vernon native, is a three-time All Star pitcher and a former Dodgers teammate and friend of Robinson. When Robinson made his debut in 1947, Branca stood next to him when players on the opposing team refused to take the field. He is the only surviving member of that team.
The tribute will be held following a 6:30 p.m. screening of ‘42’ at The Picture House, at 175 Wolfs Lane in Pelham.
