Hurricane Katia Not Expected to Hit Land

PELHAM, N.Y. - Hurricane Katia has been classified as a Category 3 hurricane by the National Weather Service but is not expected to come ashore. The winds could still have the potential to create rough waves and affect certain areas of the eastern coast.

The storm's projected path does not hit Pelham in the same way last week's Tropical Storm Irene did, so Pelham residents should not expect similar effects. Katia weakened in recent days but it still created winds up to 120 miles per hour as of Tuesday morning.

Though the hurricane will not hit Pelham directly, rain has already arrived in the area. The National Weather Service issued a flash flood watch for southern Westchester County until 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The National Weather Service predicts a chance of showers for Pelham this week until Friday, when the sky should be partly cloudy with a high of 78 degrees. Partly sunny skies are set to return Saturday and mostly sunny skies should return Sunday.
