Several media outlets called the primary in favor of Cuomo a little after 10 p.m. with approximately 80 percent of the precincts reporting. In Westchester, Cuomo received 13,351 votes to Teachout's 8,021. Randy Credico received 716.
Cuomo invested little time on the campaign trail for the Democratic primary against Teachout, a Fordham University law professor. She ran with Timothy Wu, another law school professor. He trails in the race for lieutenant governor against former U.S. Rep. Kathy Hochul, who had 58 percent of the vote late Tuesday night.
While Cuomo’s victory was widely considered a foregone conclusion, some speculated Wu had a better chance.
If the unofficial election results stand as expected, Cuomo and Hochul will move on to face Astorino and his running mate for lieutenant governor, Christopher Moss, in the November election.
Moss is the sheriff in Chemung County in upstate New York.
