PELHAM, N.Y. – More than 2,000 Pelham customers remained without power Saturday morning and it could be more than a week before power is restored.
An estimated 1,748 out of 2,051 customers in Pelham Manor and 358 out of 760 customers in the Village of Pelham were without power at 6 a.m. Saturday, according to Con Edison reports. While the height of the storm passed through Tuesday and more than 320,000 customers have had power restored, most Westchester areas listed Nov. 9 or 11 as an estimated restoration date, according to Con Edison reports.
“The hurricane is the worst natural disaster to strike Con Edison's customers,” representatives with the company said Friday. “Safety is the No. 1 priority for our customers, Con Edison employees and contractors. Crews still face thousands of wires down in New York City and Westchester County, where more than 500 roads are closed. Trees also block access to wires and equipment throughout the system and hundreds of vaults are still flooded.”
Officials said they expected to make “significant progress restoring electricity over the next seven days,” according to a press release. Additional overhead crews from around the country arrived through the week, including some from as far away as California.
As of Saturday morning, Con Edison reported approximately 280,000 customers out of service, down from 570,000 Friday morning. . That included 5,874 in Manhattan, 81,000 in Queens, 30,000 in Brooklyn, 32,000 in Staten Island and 24,000 in the Bronx. In Westchester County, the company reported 105,000 customers out of service, down from 140,000 on Friday morning.
Customers can report downed power lines, outages, and check service restoration status by computer or mobile device at www.conEd.com. They also can call 1-800-75-CONED (1-800-752-6633). Customers who report outages will be called by Con Edison with their estimated restoration times as they become available, according to the release.
