Pelham Residents Prepared for Holidays

PELHAM, N.Y. - As the holidays rapidly approach, there is a common question asked of many people: Have you finished your shopping yet? For many Pelham residents, the answer is a resounding yes.

With quite a few stores offering holiday specials, the incentive to complete holiday shopping has certainly been present. Christine Muccio shops year round for little gifts and as the holidays get closer, she buys the popular items.

“I’ve done tons, but there’s always so much more to do,” said Muccio. “There are things that you don’t think of along the road. All year long, if I see things that I know somebody would love, I just pick it up. I have lots of those things already bought like the little things and the stocking stuffers.”

Muccio has been keeping busy, especially mailing out 130 Christmas Cards.

“At this time of year, there’s a ton to do,” Muccio said. “You’ve still got the wrapping, the out-of-town people, and the mailing stuff.”

She is excited to see her three children and four grandchildren over the holidays. Muccio enjoys buying gifts for her grandkids the most.

“That’s the fun stuff,” Muccio said.

Buying gifts is seen by some Pelham residents as the mother’s job.

“My wife is completely done with all of the shopping,” Pete Johnson said. “I have yet to begin.”

Cindy Judge and Toni Cavanaugh, two Pelham mothers, were glad they got their shopping done already. They said they were the sole shoppers for their family.

“It’s the moms that do the shopping,” Judge said. “Just the way it is.”

The two women, who each have three children, are not done with helping their kids buy gifts, though.

“There are always a few little more things that you can do,” Judge said. “I think I have to do a little bit more for my husband from the kids or take the kids to go and get stuff.”

For the Judge family, however, giving gifts is not the only thing the holidays are about.

“I’m also planning for my family upstate that instead of giving gifts this year, we’re going to do activities,” Judge said. “I’m bringing up cookie dough and I bought brand new cookie cutters. I have the frosting ready with sprinkles. We’re going to be cake decorators and make cookies. It’s something fun.”
