Martha Cimmino, 87, Retired Operator of Pelham

PELHAM, N.Y. – Martha Bell Cimmino of Pelham died May 6, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was 87. 

Cimmino was born March 19, 1925 in Waddington, N.Y. She married Louis Cimmino, the proprietor of Pelham Meat Market, on March 5, 1944 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Mount Vernon. They were married 68 years and together they raised five children. 

She loved being a housewife and mother, and would also work alongside her husband in his butcher shop. She began her career outside of the home with Ma Bell as a telephone operator and retired after 23 years. Her pride and joy were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was well known for her baking and her door was always open. 

Cimmino is survived by five children, Adrienne (Eugene) Almstead, Nicholas (Suzanne) Cimmino, Janis Cimmino, Lois (Frank) Miceli and Louis (Nilsa) Cimmino; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a grandson.

Visitation is from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at Pelham Funeral Home. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Catharine's Church in Pelham.
