By 12 Pelham PTA Presidents
PELHAM, N.Y. Dear Pelham Friends and Residents,
We, like many in our community, moved to Pelham because of the quality of our schools. We have studied the proposed budget, which complies with the new tax cap legislation, and we agree that it is the best budget for our students and for the Pelham community as a whole. It will retain the standards of excellence our community demands, without unduly increasing our tax burden. We support the proposed school budget for 2012-13 and urge you to vote "YES". To those members of the community intending to send a message to the school board by voting "no," we hope that you consider the negative effects of a failed budget. The second budget put up for vote would likely contain further cuts to our educational program in order to ensure passage. A failure on the second vote would automatically yield a zero percent budget increase, which would require draconian cuts to achieve due to contractual salary and benefit increases. We are very fortunate to live in a community that places a high value on quality education. Please vote "YES" on the Budget vote on May 15 as the best way to preserve our outstanding educational program and our community values during these challenging economic times.
