Letter: Christine Rosskopf Backed for Pelham BOE

PELHAM, N.Y. — TheDailyPelham.com accepts signed, original letters to the editor. Letters may be emailed to letters@thedailypelham.com

To the Editor,

As someone who has been deeply involved in school district issues this year, I've gotten to know Christine Rosskopf over the last eight months — first through our shared concern about math and later as she stood up for other issues including fiscal responsibility, transparency in decision-making, class size and preservation of programs.

I believe that Christine has an approach to school district issues that would serve the board of education well: she centers her thinking on what's best for all of Pelham's children and their education.

In addition to being an elementary parent and a lawyer with a strong regulatory and mediation background, Christine is a person with integrity who isn't afraid to tackle challenging issues, isn't afraid to get involved or advocate for our children and the wise spending of our tax dollars. I think that's just what the board of education needs.

When she talks about community input and involvement on budget priorities, curricula, the educational priorities of the community, it's not just talk — Christine will work to make that happen and keep the focus on the education of our children.

She has taken the time to really immerse herself in the community, the school district and the issues. Christine asks questions, does her own homework and has the capacity to understand and work with those who have a different view.

And regardless of the setting — a board of education meeting, a candidate forum, a PTA Council meeting, out and about — she sticks to her principles.

I believe Christine can make a difference in how the board operates, that she will help Pelham continue to pursue educational excellence, and that she will foster the community collaboration people have been seeking — always with the education of our children as the top priority.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Slattery (Merritt)
