For several hours on Saturday, volunteers from New Rochelle’s Community Enrichment Zone (CEZ) came together at the corridor for a “Community Clean-up Day” clearing out litter and other debris there and in the streets between North and Clinton Avenues.
In all, it is estimated that more than 150 members of the community participated in the clean-up.
“I am gratified that over 150 volunteers showed up to participate in CEZ New Rochelle Clean-up day. Seeing the community come together to enhance the beauty of this important section of our City is rewarding," City Council member Jared Rice, who spearheaded the cleanup efforts, stated. "I want to thank the partner organizations who worked to make this event so successful."
Several local organizations teamed to "create and encourage a green environment, while building relationships that establish a 'sense of pride in where you reside.' T-shirts commemorating the event and cleaning tools were provided through Habitat of Humanity of Westchester.
"Habitat of Westchester loves New Rochelle and commits to working to improve this city," Executive Director Jim Killoran said. "As a main sponsor and facilitator, we continue as one team."
The Lincoln Avenue clean-up was one of the first volunteer projects the community collaborated on since the establishment of Volunteer New Rochelle! Future projects include the New Rochelle Street Fair and a book drive to benefit the school district’s My Brother’s Keeper challenge.
"Volunteer New York! is proud to be able to work this closely with a great city like New Rochelle to help increase volunteerism at the community level," Volunteer New York! Executive Director Alisa Kesten said in a statement. "This is just the start of a really great partnership."
