Denzel Washington Lives Up To Promise Made To Mount Vernon Librarian

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- A Hollywood mega-star who spent his early years growing up in Mount Vernon reconnected with his past recently when he visited his childhood librarian, Connie Mauro, according to multiple media reports.

Denzel Washington, 61, was filming near Atlanta earlier this month when he decided to pop into the Marietta, Georgia assisted living home of "Miss Connie" to help the woman celebrate her 99th birthday, according to Hello! magazine.

Mauro was the librarian at the Mt. Vernon Public Library for 50 years and had spoken to Washington by phone on her big day in November, Hello! reported, adding that the pair agreed to get together in December.

The topics discussed were not made public, however, Washington did receive three scarfs she knitted for him, in addition to the first Mount Vernon library book he ever took out, according to Hello!
