Westchester Couple Gets Engaged On Cbs-tv's 'The Amazing Race'

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – An enthralling trip up a mountainside in Thailand was hardly the most exciting thing to happen to the globetrotting Scarsdale couple participating on CBS-TV's "The Amazing Race," as they made a lifelong commitment to one another on national television.

The reality television program may only film for one month out of the year, but Scarsdale native Matt Cucolo made sure the experience would last a lifetime for he and his new fiancé, Ashley Gordon, after proposing atop the Pit Stop in Thailand.

“I promise you that every morning before I leave for work I tell you I love you (and I) promise every night before I go to sleep I'll give you a kiss good night,” he said while his fellow contestants cheered. “You have to promise me you’ll make me the happiest man in the world.”

Cucolo and Gordon are one of 11 teams of couples traveling the globe and participating in physical, mental and emotional challenges as part of the Amazing Race’s 26th season.

“Participating on the Amazing Race did alter our relationship, for the better. We not only got a chance to travel the world together, but we were forced to always rely on, and trust each other,” Gordon said. “It brought us so much closer together.”

“I have a whole new level of trust, respect and admiration for Matt. He truly was the most amazing partner and I wouldn’t have done the Amazing Race with anyone else.”

As they return to their everyday lives as hairdressers in Scarsdale after racing around the globe, Cucolo agreed the experienced he shared with his future wife only improved their relationship.

“Ashley gave me 100 percent trust during the race, and going into it she thought she was going to struggle with doing so and she didn’t,” he said. “To sum it all up, it was the best thing that could have happened to us, and we thank God every day that we had this amazing opportunity.”
